About The Event

This workshop is the sixth one of the series Female Rainbow Groups for Women:

In this specific workshop, we use Greek myths, Authentic Movement explorations and Expressive Art activities to invoke in our embodied presence, the qualities of Persephone, the maiden and queen of underworld, receptive woman and mother's daughter, to live up to our commitments and open our hearts to the numinous experience.

The goddess Persephone has two aspects, as the Kore (daughter) and as the Queen of the Underworld. As the Kore she represents the young girl spirit who does not know "who she is" and is as yet unaware of her desires or strengths. As the Queen of Underworld she "guides the living who visit the underworld" and claims for herself what she wants.

Symbolically, the underworld can represent deeper layers of the psyche and Persephone the ability to move back and forth between the ego-based reality of the "real" world and the unconscious or archetypal reality of the psyche. With guided and self-directed explorations, we will have the opportunity to delve into this ability:

  • to cultivate receptivity
  • to recognize the commitments we need to make to grow beyond the Kore
  • to open our hearts to the numinous experience
